Chapter arguments Custom Essay

Using the film and your researched texts as sources, you will write an essay which analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the differing arguments on this topic, as well as their use of sources, to determine which source makes its argument more effectively and therefore argues the position most strongly.

You will describe several arguments related to your chosen topic, evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, and conclude by stating which positions seem the strongest. Your evaluation should include statements about: the logos, ethos and pathos of the texts; what particular strategies the authors use to construct the arguments; what type of ethical reasoning strategies the authors use; and how fallacies (errors in reasoning/logic) affected the arguments. Do the conclusions/claims follow from the premises (validity) or seem likely to be true? Also include a discussion of underlying assumptions or premises and whether they are supported. Do not appear to take a position on the topic itself, merely evaluate the strength of others’ positions.

One way of organizing this paper is to first describe the views on one side of the issue and then the other. You don’t need to give a full analysis of each text/source, but be sure to draw general conclusions for each feature and support them with specific examples from your sources.

Use a “claims and evidence” approach. Be specific about the points you are making about the film/article and support those points with evidence (i.e. specific examples from the film/texts) that your audience will find credible and appropriate.

For this project you will analyze and evaluate the ethical argumentation of several sources on the same topic. You should have (4) total sources, (2) on each side of the issue you have chosen to evaluate. Your primary text is the film outlined on this assignment sheet, and you will research and choose (3) other sources. At least (1) of your sources must be a printed source.
