Community Paper

Objective: according to the Nursing Code of Ethics, set by the American Nurses Association, there are 4 ethical responsibilities that are required by a registered nurse (RN). This paper will focus on the two that most relate to the community setting and primary prevention:

1. Health promotion
2. Prevention of illness and disease

Now, I was assigned to a 2 day rotation at a local community clinic. I was assigned to the urgent care floor one day, and the second day I was assigned to the infusion center. In this paper, you will address how the nurse, that I was assigned to, and myself demonstrated these ethical responsibilities. Include examples observed for each responsibility. Feel free to have imagination when thinking of examples. Also, the body of the paper should be at least 3 pages, but not more than 4 pages.

If any references are used they should be from Wong’s Essentials of Pediatric Nursing, Taylor’s fundamentals of nursing: the art and science of nursing care, or Brunner & Suddarth’s textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing.

The grading rubric criteria for this paper is:
1. Identify and describe the RN’s role and responsibilities for promoting health, and preventing illness, while providing care to the client

2. Gives at least 3 examples for each responsibility (health promotion/illness prevention, for a total of 6 examples) that are appropriate for promoting health and preventing illness, and a rationale on how they will impact the patient’s health.
