The purpose of this activity is to compare the cardiovascular response to conventional aerobic exercise with the response to activities which people are less likely to
think of as aerobic exercise. You will need a partner for this activity. Your partner will record your heart rate at the end of every minute of exercise.
Part B
Put on the heart rate metre and position yourself on an aerobic exercise machine: cycle ergometer, treadmill, rowing machine, or stair stepper. Start recording when
you start exercising, and record your heart rate every minute for 30 minutes. Document the work rate (e.g., the treadmill speed and inclination).
Part C
On a different day, record your heart rate for 30 minutes while you do one of the activities (other than walking) suggested in the Handbook for Canada’s Physical
Activity Guide for Healthy Living. Again, record heart rate every minute and document the conditions of the activity (e.g., playing Frisbee in the park with my dog).
Part D
Submit your raw data. (Refer to the section titled “recording data” in Unit 5 of the Study Guide). Also submit your results as a graph, with time in minutes as the
independent variable (i.e., on the x-axis) and heart rate in beats per minute as the dependent variable (i.e., on the y-axis). Use circles to represent data from Part
B and X’s for data from Part C.
Part E
For each of Part B and Part C, calculate average heart rate for the period from minute 5 to minute 30. Present the result to the correct number of significant figures
(significant figures are explained in Unit 5 of the Study Guide).
Part F
Compare the health and fitness implications of Part B with Part C.
Answer regarding the differences in the exercises. How doe they affect health and fitness differently?
Three pages of double-spaced typewritten discussion are expected. Raw data and graphs not counted.
Data for Part B i have are between 114,120,100,120,127,125,132,134,144,147 etc… i cannot write all the numbers here but numbers were ranging from starting 114 and
ending with higher and higher number bpm (beats per minute) i was doing treadmill with 0.5 degree and 3.5miles/hr
