writing center on all of that and to figure out how to do the bibliography. You need to get that right.

arrival of German immigrants into the United States of America."

In addition, you list many of your scholarly sources incorrectly, using first names for last names.

Your paper should include a clear introduction to the topic (ideally explaining why this topic is worth elaborating

on), a body that is well organized, and a conclusion. The conclusion should go beyond the thesis stated at the

beginning of the paper and address the implications that you can draw from your discussion. A reader should easily

comprehend the overall picture your paper presents even when reading only the introduction and conclusion.

Try to avoid using too many chapters – you are not writing a book, but just a maximum of 20 pages, and each chapter

should comprise a few pages. Also try to avoid too many sub-chapters. Keeping the structure plain and simple will

also help to keep your focus on the essential contents.

Your paper should present your own insight regarding the topic. It is not sufficient just to summarize or describe

a text. Your job is also to comment on why the various texts or documents we have are relevant and important, or

how they need to be understood, etc.

sources and works of other scholars have been used, and how they have been used. The rules of the Viadrina

University demand that that any student whose work includes plagiarism will fail the course.

All quotations (literal or paraphrased) need to be fully acknowledged in accordance with the standard referencing

practices. These practices demand that literal quotations are put into quotation mark (inverted comma).

When making reference to a source, either a primary or secondary one (in your footnotes, or paranthetical citations

if you are using the MLA style manual), you should always mention the relevant page number(s). It is one of the

rules of scholarly research to make all steps of your work and of your argument transparent to the reader. This

means that the reader must have the opportunity to double-check your claims. This is almost impossible if you do

not include page numbers. Therefore, when you are preparing a written paper and gather your material from existing

literature, always note the page number immediately. You might want to have a second look at those pages yourself,

and without proper referencing in your own notes you will waste a lot of time relocating them when you start to

write.
