LIT 201 Final Project Rubric

Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of an original literary analysis. Organizing and analyzing works of writing through the lens of a particular theme is a powerful tool for making sense of literature. By

identifying common features within works created in different locations and time periods, we can discover what ideas, characters, values, circumstances, and so on are universal to human existence, regardless

of place or time. As you work through the readings in this course, you will notice the value of theme groupings in analyzing and comparing different works of literature. For your final paper, you will write an

original literary analysis using a theme that is not presented in the course.

You may choose one of the themes provided in the Final Project section of the course or develop a theme independently with instructor approval. For your theme, select two works from different chapters in

the webtext, and analyze them according to the theme you have selected. Your completed essay should be five to six pages and include citations using MLA style.

• Milestone One: Submit Your Thesis – After you select a theme and works to analyze, write a thesis statement that presents an argument that will be developed in the paper. Due at the end of Module Two
• Milestone Two: Submit Your Outline – Create an outline for the final paper that supports the thesis you developed in Milestone One. Due at the end of Module Three
• Milestone Three: Submit Your Rough Draft – Submit a rough draft of your final paper. Your instructor will review your work and provide feedback to help you improve your final paper. Due at the end of

Module Five
• Milestone Four: Submit Your Final Paper – Use the feedback on your rough draft to make edits to your draft, and then submit the final paper. Due at the end of Module Seven
