This is a Policy Memo essay
Memo Essay direction – Imagine you have been hired by the government of a very poor country, which has high levels of corruption and has recently become a democracy. The president is worried about a democratic reversal, and has hired you to advise her on how to avoid it.
CREATE A MEMO POLICY ESSAY that advising the president OF THREE OR FOUR ACTIONS she must take to keep her nation democratic.
The essay should take into account the fact that both poverty and corruption levels are high; you can either address this directly with one or more of your recommendation, or indirectly by trying to find policies that are less likely to be rendered ineffective by these constraints.
A good answer will recognize that the President is neither a dictator nor a magician: she cannot simply impose solutions that will magically solve the country’s problem. Although her party has majority in the congress, she must maintain popular support; and her budget is limited.
YOU SHOULD NOT simply list what must be done, but identify the three or four key actions that matter most, and explain why they are likely to help sustain democracy
