1. According to Jacob & Chase, (2011), core competency is one thing that it can do better than its competitors. It ranges from product design or sustained dedication to employees. A major goal is to

have core competency yielding as a long term competitive advantage to the company (Jacob & Chase, 2011).Once core competencies are identified, companies should build on them. Investing in needed

technologies is a necessary first step. For example, the company I work for invest high in technology. This technology start up by developing a new software product, and they invest in the latest software

development tools and in multiple operating systems to comprehensively test its product. Secondly, sufficient human resources, technical and sales and financial resources should be allocated because a

halfhearted effort usually leads to failure. The company I work for they invest heavy in process, and improvement; Therefore, the employees are always taking training classes. Finally, core competencies are

strengths which the organization has. Core competencies may include any combination of skills, technologies, processes, knowledge or expertise and are often achieved as a result of long-term development

processes and / or experiences. The core competencies have to be perceived as unique; therefore, the organization stands apart from its competitors because of a combination of core competencies it

demonstrates.

A core competency is fundamental knowledge, ability, or expertise in a specific subject area or skill set. For example, an individual who becomes certified as a Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE)

is said to have a core competency in certain Microsoft systems and networks. Companies with specific strengths in the marketplace, such as data storage or the development of accounting applications, can be

said to have a core competency in that area. The core part of the term indicates that the individual has a strong basis from which to gain the additional competence to do a specific job or that a company has a

strong basis from which to develop additional products.
