This case study was prepared for the CLARION Interprofessional Case Competition. It was developed as a basis for discussion and the information is fabricated/fictitious.
After reading the case study, identify as many system issues as possible. To assist in your brainstorming in this effort please refer to the table provided by clicking on the link above, it is by no means complete,
but will give you a lot to think about as you dissect the myriad of problems in the case of, The Unfortunate Admission.
The purpose of this paper is NOT to discuss the “medicine” or clinical issues in this case. Rather, it is for you to put your thinking caps on, and consider what elements of our healthcare system led to or may
have contributed to the outcome in this case, and then discuss improvement strategies that if implemented, may prevent a similar event from happening in the future (THINK for example, hand-off issues). You
do not need to analyze every systems issue you identify – choose three or four for discussion.
To get you started in organizing your paper, construct a grid of the case to identify the systems issues that you think contributed to the problems on Day One, then Day Two and finally Day Three, as a means to
help organize the systems issues. You may include your grid as an added Table if you wish, but it is not required to be included. Cite at least two outside resources. This paper should be three to five pages
long (without the cover and reference page). Grading includes appropriate use of APA!
