Assessment #3 – reflective report (Graded)
Assessment 3 provides students with the opportunity to reflect on and write about their learning from this course.
In doing so students are demonstrating the knowledge and skills needed to meet course objectives A, B, C and D.
Students will also demonstrate development as a beginning human service work professional which will help them to
meet the AASW Practice Standards; in particular 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3.
For this assessment, during the study period you prepare a learning portfolio which is a personal reflection and
analysis of the key learning that has contributed to your development. Each week you will use your portfolio to
record:
1. what you learned in WELF 1019 this week.
2. What was new to you.
3. How this knowledge will influence your practice as a human service worker.
You will also use your portfolio to save any questionaires and exercises that you complete from the text book.
This use of your portfolio as a weekly journal to record reflections on your learning each week and to evaluate
your skills as they develop will be the foundation for assignment 3.
.
Assessment 3 is based on information collected in your portfolio and will consist of an essay describing two
strengths and two areas that need further development.
Assessment 3 should be 2000 words in length and include an introduction and a conclusion. The body of this
assessment will consist of four sections each describing a strength or an area that needs further development (
400 words each). As evidence in each four sections you can copy and paste from the relevant weekly entries in your
portfolio, identifying the week of that entry. The conclusion will summarise your reflections. Your assessment 3
must be clearly linked to your learning portfolio to be considered a substantive piece of self-evaluation
Assessment 3 needs to be supported by at least eight academic references and adhere to Harvard referencing
conventions. The references need to be distributed evenly across the four instances
of learning. It is expected that references will be from journal articles and textbooks used in this course.
Formatting requirements for assessment 3 are: size 12 Times New Roman font, 1.5 spacing, text justified, pages
numbered, margin 2.5cm. Assessments that do not adhere to the word limit (plus
or minus 10%) are not acceptable. Markers will not mark past the word limit.
The assignment must be submitted electronically using Gradebook Please use the “insert file” function in “word” to
attach a feedback sheet to your assessment before you upload it to Gradebook. Assignments should be submitted no
later than Friday 20th June at 5.00pm. Late submissions without an extension will have 5% of the mark deducted for
every day that the assessment is overdue.
Marked assignments will be returned within 2-3 weeks of submission.

criteria and the relationship to
the graduate qualities. You are strongly encouraged to review the feedback sheet BEFORE you start this assessment.
