You will be researching information about a real person who lived in Seattle in the 1930’s in your neighborhood in a building that you see every day.
At the same time, you will research the discussion that centers around one aspect of life of culture in the 1930’s. This discussion or conversation can include texts that were created at any time since that period.
The Research Paper Requirements

Use your oral presentation outline as your model for your paper.
You should include illustrations, but they do not count toward the total number of written pages.
Use your research about the person who lived in your neighborhood to introduce your readers to the different points of view that are evident in the texts in Seattle and the U.S. around one aspect of life or

culture in the 1930’s.
Your paper should include both primary and secondary sources.
Some examples of appropriate documents from the time of the event (primary sources) include: newspaper articles, letters, photographs, maps, census records, political cartoons, advertisements, and copies of

state or municipal laws (for this assignment please do not use more than two of the same type of document)

Use embedded MLA documentation. After your topic sentences introduce your sources and then use signal phrases with strong verbs in your paraphrases and summaries. Only use parenthetical referencing if

you are using a print source or a pdf and then only give the page numbers. Be sure to comment on your information after you give it (the “sandwich”). A good rule of thumb is to follow each quotes with a

paraphrase or comment on the quote that is approximately the same length as the quote itself.

The Works Cited Page Requirements

This is in addition to your paper. Work Cited pages are tedious to create because the rules are so exact, but whatever you get right now is one less thing you will have to do for your final.
Include all the sources you refer to in your paper (there should be a minimum of 3 primary sources and 2 secondary sources)
Use MLA format to set up your document and for your bibliographic entries
Midterm Checklist:

Refer to a minimum of 3 primary sources and 2 secondary sources
Use topic sentences and transitions
Correctly introduce your sources
Use signal phrases in paraphrases and summaries
Use parenthetical references in MLA style
Write at least 3 pages (no longer than 5 please)
Format the paper correctly
Correct the grammar and punctuation to the best of your ability (you should use a tutor to help you on this)
Most importantly—make sure it is clear why you are giving us this information and how it relates to your research question
