State what the solution must do and must avoid.
Example – The solution should reduce high school absences.
The solution should avoid giving out of school suspension
which only increases student absences.
Note: It is very important that you set clear and concise criteria for the solution before developing the solution. This is similar to refuting opposing viewpoints.
IV. Develop possible solutions
Brainstorm as many ideas for solutions that you can.
Eliminate solutions that do not meet the criteria
V. Present the solution that best fits the need or problem
Use research that proves this solution will correct or fix the problem.
VI. Implementation of the solution.
Show how the solution can be implemented into society.
Explain step by step how this solution will be funded and actually be
put into action.
The body of the research paper defines a social problem, analyzes or proves the problem exists, provides a set of criteria to do and avoid when developing a solution, provides a list of possible solutions, presents a final solution and shows how it can be implemented. Also include an introduction and conclusion in your research paper. An introduction should capture attention, introduce the subject, establish credibility, and preview the main points. The conclusion should signal an ending, summarize the information, and give the reader somewhere to go with the information.
