Final Exam Essay Questions (300 to 500 words each).
You will have three essay questions on the final exam. Your response to each must show that you have read class materials and taken thorough class notes. You will be graded, in part, on your use of

appropriate terminology used in sociology. Responses that do not reflect understanding of course concepts and vocabulary will be graded down. Define each concept you discuss.
1. We all belong to multiple groups whose norms we follow. Other than family, race, and religion, decide which one of your group memberships has the greatest impact on your life right now and

explain why, using specific examples. Choose one group only.

2. Regardless of the fact that you are an adult, you continue to be socialized every day. Imagine that you are out for a walk in Manchester or another local town on an ordinary weekend. What might

you see as you walk around that will socialize you, whether you’re aware of being socialized or not? Explain your response.

3. Explain why “race” is both real and not real. Then explain what “race” or mixture of races you consider yourself to be and explain how that status impacts or has impacted your life in the United

States. Give specific examples. You may also discuss your ethnicity (not required), but the primary discussion should be about race.

You will receive a grade (15 points possible) and a GenEd “Benchmark” score. The GenEd score will be submitted to Chalk and Wire for the purposes of helping the university determine the strengths and

weaknesses of each GenEd program. You will not need to submit anything—I will take care of the submission for you. The only score you need to be concerned about is the Class Score.
