Paper Requirements:
________ Title page: This page should have your name, the paper title, class, and due date. You can be as creative as you like with this page as well.
________ Page length: 6-7 typed, double-spaced pages. Use Garamond or Times New Roman font at 12 point. You may not use spaces between paragraphs or artificial divisions of the paper (such as titling
separate sections, and headers more than one line).
________ Number the pages. Every page after the title page must be numbered. Headers may consist of only one line.
________ Use four sources in your paper and at least one primary source & one book source.
________ Have seven or more notes from each of your sources submitted for a note check. Notes must include the page number. Notes from books & printed sources must be from separate pages. Notes
may be on note cards, in a notebook, or consist of substantial marginalia of a text. Highlighting a text or one word remarks don’t count as notes.
________ A bibliography should be at the end of the paper.
________ Any illustrations, graphs, or attached text should be at the end of the paper.
________ All sources should be cited in MLA style as either in-text citation or footnotes. Your citation style must be consistent and correct. Your word processesor should help ensure consistent and correct
citation.
________ All work must be original work. Plagiarized papers or work composed by another person will be graded as a zero. If you are unable to explain your own work in a reasonable manner, then it will be
assumed that you have not written the paper. Every senior should anticipate such an interview with either myself or another humanities teacher. (The possibility applies for everyone else as well.)
Paper Content:
You must have a thesis that attempts to answer a research question. Like an essay in English class, you must make an argument in the paper. The paper is not a report, but persuasive writing requiring you to
use evidence and reasoning to support your thesis.

First draft grade – The grade for the first draft is based on how well you follow directions and construct an organized paper with a clear argument. I’m going to scan these papers in order to identify any
outstanding issues that can be corrected in the final draft (i.e. thesis, general organization, proper formatting, plagiarism, adequate source base, etc.)
Final grade – The final grade is based on the quality of your work and your response to my comments.
