Write a report of approximately 1000 words on one of the greatest technological and social issues/ problems in 21st century, discussing two examples of the same issue (e.g. technological solutions to lack of
drinking water in two different geographical areas; rising cost of fuel in the UK and the USA; issues of carbon emission in India and the UK).
In order to do this, you need to:
1. Briefly explain the root causes of the issue and the need to solve the problem.
2. Then, identify the objectives that need to be achieved in order to finda solution to the problem.
3. Compare and contrastdifferent examples of technological solutions to the selected issue (e.g. alternative ways of producing electrical power).
4. Finally, draw a conclusion and
5. Suggest suitable recommendations to the parties involved.
Prepare this information in the appropriate format for a report (NOT an essay).
Your report will need to:
a. use appropriate headings and sub-headings
b. use appropriate language
c. contain all the relevant information
Please also note that
• you will have to support your evaluation and any conclusions with detail, specific examples and other relevant evidence.
• you must adhere to the academic conventions of referencing, which means that all sources that you use must be acknowledged (referenced) in the main body of your work as well as in the list of references.
Additionally, you must adhere to the following guidelines:
1) Assignments should be word-processed.
3) Every page should be numbered except the title page.
4) The font should be Times New Roman or Arial 12 point.
5) Line spacing should be 1.5.
6) Quotations should be:
a. – short quotations are run on as part of the main text, enclosed in quotation marks, and
i. reference source in brackets.
ii. e.g. Sears (Sears, 1972: 28) argues that a further dimension is being added in that, ‘development now implies reduction of cultural dependence on one or more of the greater powers.’
b. – long quotations: if more than 3 lines, should be indented from the left and right margins,
i. in single line spacing, no quotation marks, and reference in brackets.
ii. e.g. Sears states that:
Development is inevitably a normative concept, almost a synonym for improvement. To pretend otherwise is just to hide one’s value judgement. (Sears, 1972: 40).
7) List of references should be included on a separate page at the end of the assignment.
References are arranged in alphabetical order by author’s surname, or the name of the
organisation. For differences between references to books and journals, and electronic
sources, follow the given instructions.
