Unit Aim:
The aim of this unit is to meet the needs of middle and senior managers in the health and social care sector who wish to develop their competences in managing the delivery of service.
Unit Description:
Managing service delivery examines the nature of a service and focuses on knowledge frameworks that enable the design of processes and services, focusing on outcomes, equity and the impact of quality on

the organization.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the importance of service delivery in the health and social care sector.

2. Understand the importance of quality in health and social care organizations.

3. Understand the theory and practice of managing operational systems in health organisations.

Assessment Questions:
Q1 – As a Manager, you need to critically assess the contribution of service operations to achieving the objectives of a health or social care organization; critically evaluate the importance of the service

operations function; and systematically analyse the nature of effectiveness and efficiency and their relationship (1.1; 1.2 & 1.3).
Q2 – As a Manager, you need to critically assess the impact of quality on patient safety and the management of risk; analyse the relationships between quality, equity and cost; and critically evaluate the

importance of quality assurance in health and social care organizations (2.1; 2.2 & 2.5).
Q3 – As a Manager, you need to examine the tools and techniques used to meet customer expectations; and systematically analyse how these tools help to ensure continuous organizational improvement (2.3 &

2.4).
Q4 – As a Manager, you need to investigate potential solutions/improvements to systems management in health and social care organizations; and critically evaluate systems theory to cover (a) benefits and (b)

problems (3.1 & 3.2).

Assessment
Students are assessed against the learning outcomes of the unit utilizing a range of assessment tools and methods.
You need to pass each question of the assessment before you can pass the whole unit of the course.
