Unit title: Personal and Team Effectiveness in Health and Social Care
This unit is designed to enable students to identify critically the key factors which contribute to personal effectiveness and improved performance within the team environment. It considers what effectiveness is
and how it can be enhanced. It explores managing and working with groups and teams in the wider context and frameworks for assisting personal and team effectiveness including issues concerning the future
workforce. The aim of the unit is to meet the needs of middle and senior managers in Health and Social Care who wish to develop their competences in leading and managing teams.

2. Understand the issues involved in developing individual effectiveness
3. Understand the issues involved in assessing and developing team effectiveness in health and social care
4. Understand different approaches to leading teams in various health and social care situations.
Q1 – As a manager, you need to define effectiveness in the health and social care sector; apply different approaches to effectiveness to a given situation/business; identify priorities to ensure effectiveness;
systematically analyse the impact of power and empowerment on effectiveness; and identify ways of measuring performance (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 &1.5).
Q2 – As a manager, you need to investigate the values and beliefs that underpin an individual’s work; examine professional and organizational values; systematically analyse potential conflicts; critically evaluate
the use of feedback to develop personal effectiveness; and systematically analyse the importance of continuous development (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 & 2.5).
Q3 – As a manager, you need to investigate the nature of teams in the health and social care sector; systematically analyse the stages of team development, their characteristics and how they can be influenced;
investigate a framework for assessing team effectiveness; and develop a plan for developing your team (3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 3.4).
Q4 – As a manager, you need to examine the nature of leadership and its role in motivating health and social care individuals and teams; systematically analyse the various approaches to leading teams in
differing health and social care situations; investigate the most effective/appropriate in a given situation; and investigate the relationship between leadership and authority (4.1, 4.2, 4.3 & 4.4).
Students are assessed against the learning outcomes of the unit utilizing a range of assessment tools and methods.
